ANUMBER of prosecutions was heard by Monmouth magistrates last week following a series of vehicle examinations carried out on the Monmouth by-pass on July 1. Harold George Lewis, Edge End, near Coleford, was fined fl for using a trailer with an inefficient braking system, and the owners, Monmouth Sawmills Co., Ltd., 13 for allowing the vehicle to be used.

For having an inefficient hand brake and an inefficient braking system on a trailer, Samuel Francis Truswell, Derby, was fined £2, and the owners, AIfreton Transport, Ltd., £10. The company were also ordered by the bench to pay £4 19s. 2d. costs.

A fine of £1 was imposed on David Lewis Jones, Central Avenue, Cefn Forest, for driving a lorry with inefficient brakes, and the Co-operative Wholesale Society, Ltd., Maesycwmmer, Hengoed, the owners, paid £5 for allowing the vehicle to be used.
