ARRANGEMENTS have now been completed for the Scottish Commercial Vehicle Driver of the Year Competition. A new venue—Keir and Cawder's premises at Kirkintilloch Road, Bishopriggs, Glasgow—has been 'found for the Glasgow round, which will now take place on September 14, as originally planned. Tests for the eliminating rounds at Aberdeen, Dundee-Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow have been published and are shown above.

The rules generally follow those for the All-England competition, but articulated vehicles are grouped in one class, instead of being divided into two sections according to the unladen weight of the tractor. Only five control points are laid down for the road sections, as against 10 in England, but 10 questions have to be answered on the Highway Code, whereas in England the number is five. A maximum of 20 marks will be awarded for the road section, Highway Code and each of the three manoeuvring exercises, making a total of 100.

The three manceuvring tests are as follows, competitors in each case starting with the foremast front wheels on line AA and finishing astride line BB:— Test 1: Drive forward between pylons X and Y; reverse; drive forward between pylons X and Y and Y and Z; reverse; drive forward between pylons Y and Z.

Test 2: Drive forward around pylon Y to enter box; reverse around pylon Y into box; drive forward around first pylon Y.

Test 3: Drive forward and halt with foremost pair of wheels over line CC but not over line DD; reverse and stop with rearmost pair of wheels over line EE, but not over line FF. Drive forward to halt astride line BB with all near-side outermost wheels between lines PBQ.

Three competitors from each class will EC) forward, to the final to be held at Stockbridge, Linlithgow, on September 28.
