• Moves to bolster the haulage industry's influence in the EC will be made next week when the International Road Transport Union meets in Barcelona.
The IRU — of which the Road Haulage Association and Freight Transport Association are members — will be asked to consider setting up a bigger office in Brussels to lobby key politicians and civil servants.
The proposal to expand the IRU's current Brussels staff oi two was made at the RHAs international group's recent meeting in Holland (CM 12-18 March). Some members argue that running a bigger office would be expensive and would require extra funding which might be opposed by grassroots RHA members.
However the RHA is still considering moves for stronger representation.
"If you walk the corridors of power, you've got to have industry presence," it says.
