[WARNINGS to C-licensees that they W must remain alert to safeguard their interests were given at several recent annual meetings of areas of the Traders' Road Transport Association.

"There continues to be the greatest need for the strongest possible organization of C-licence holders if their rights to operate without restriction are to be as adequately preserved in the future as in the immediate past," says the third annual report of the London and Home Counties Area, which was presented at a meeting last week.

Mr. Chris. Smith was re-appointed chairman, and Mr. H. C. Crane and Mr. J. Janes, vice-chairmen. . Mr. W. A. Winson was elected honorary treasurer in stfccession to Mr. Crane.

Mr. R. L. Dance, who was re-elected chairman at the annual general meeting of the Western Area of the Association,. described 1947 as probably the most momentous year in the history of British transport. He said that the Association strongly condemned the abuse •of licences. Mr. D. J. F. Jackson was appointed vice-chairman of the area.

Col. A. Jerrett, president of the Association, and Mr. F. D. Fitz-Gerald, national secretary, attended the

Northern Area's annual meeting at Newcastle. Mr. S. S. Robson was re-appointed chairman, and Capt. F. T. Blumberg and Mr .1, A. C. fhwaites were elected vice-chairmen.

There was no clear picture of what effect the implementation of the Transport Act would have on trade and industry, but whether users liked the Act or not, they owed a duty to the Nation to give it the fullest opportunity to. prove itself to be, as claimed, of benefit to the trading community said Mr. T. A. Dobson, chairman, at the Hull area's annual meeting.

The following were appointed to the committee : Messrs. T. A. Dobson, H. Plant, S. Charity, H. Clayton, A. Scott, W. H. Lewis, G. E. Towns, R. Worfolk, R. A. Alec-Smith, J. B. Dunn, J. V. Gallagher, J. H. Gibb, G. Bradley. C. H. Scatter and H. Hudson.

Speaking at the West Midland Area 6 annual meeting, Col. • Jerrett also stressed the importance of adopting an unbiased attitude towards the British Transport Commission, until it has had an opportunity of proving its usefulness to 'trade and industry.

At all these meetings substantial increases in membership were reported.
