Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Welsh tipper operator H Davies & Sons is locked in a legal dispute with a vehicle recovery operator which has charged it nearly 14,000 for recovering one of its trucks after an accident, Gammon Davies, who owns the Denbighshire-based company, is Incensed that recovery operator Howley Quay Motors, based in Warrington, charged £3,838 for recovering an eight-wheel tipper from the 4550 on 8 June. Part of the invoice details £65 for the use of two straps.

The tipper was taken 25 miles to Warrington and then impounded for the police to inspect.

But because Davies is refusing to pay the invoice, Howley is now charging Davies £30 a day storage for the vehicle, with another £20 a day for a load of stone.

Davies has consulted a transport lawyer and is now determined to fight the demand.

"The amount charged is ridiculous," says Davies. "I had an estimate from a local firm which would only have charged £680." He insists that there was hardly any damage to the tipper after the accident apart from a broken windscreen and that the police should not even have been involved.
