After a car ploughed into the side of one of his trucks fast October, killing the car driver instantly, he faced intense scrutiny as part of the accident investigation. The dryer and the company were cleared of any responsibility, but the incident left its mark "It was frightening," says James. "It was two months before I found out we were in the clear" The police later revealed that the car driver was probably answering his mobile phone when he lost control of the vehicle on a bend and crashed straight into the truck. But although there was no evidence that the truck driver was culpable, the company still faced stringent safety checks as part of the post-crash probe. "We were completely exonerated," says James. "But if anything had gone wrong it would have come back on me as transport manager and owner of the business. But I'm not against the bill, if it's used appropriately,"
