IN REPLY TO the letter from Ray Sal'tiel (CM 8 September) 1 feel that he may have missed the point of the article to which he refers.
Certainly there have been several instances of consultants falling foul of the Traffic Commissionersthey are, fortunately, few and far between.
Unlike them we are a longestablished, well-regarded practice set up originally by my Late husband, Cohn Ward, who was well known and respected by the Conunissioners and throughout the country.
The Practice Direction, which evidently came into being to curtail the inappropriate manner in which those consultants were operating, has unfortunately (and, we are sure, unintentionally) resulted in a situation where this now threatens to undermine the services we can provide for our clients, most of whom have been with us for many years, and could place them at considerable risk.
Moreover, Operators' written instructions are being ignored, taking away their freedom of choice which cannot be right.
We do not see operator's licence administration as "bread and butter" work, and using a consultant does not mean an operator is failing to be responsible for his licence.
Indeed, it shows an operator's commitment to getting his licensing matters compliant.
Likewise, being a member of a professional body such as the FTA or RHA demonstrates a wish to get things right.
So when operators come to us for assistance we don't smile we support them in achieving this for the future.
