Children saved itself 225,000 on its vehicle budget by refurbishing four exDutch army Dais for its aid work in Bosnia (CM 28 July). Now the vehicles are in Bosnia working hard to take the aid direct to the needy: 'We are always very vigilant about our aid not getting onto the block market—we always distribute it directly into the hands of the families and return to check its prober use," says the charity. The trucks have already come under fire delivering into Turbe, near the Serbian front line. A Renault which has been with FTC for some time sustained minor damage from a shell. No one was hurt but, says FTC, the incident "demonstrates the continuing dangers faced by our workers every day".
