• Based on the operational experience of GTE automatic chassis lubrication (ACL) systems fitted to 2,500 new trailers during 1987, Central Trailer Rental has repeated the order for 1988. Loughboroughbased IMS, UK distributor, will be installing the GTE system on those of the trailers to be built in the UK: CTR, which has a current fleet of 8,500 trailers, says its additional 2,500 will make it the biggest trailer rental company in Europe.
GTE lubrication equipment includes a 4kg grease reservoir which caters for 100,0001cm working, by a semi-trailer, without replenishment.
The grease is supplied to the lubrication points through a ring-main system, with a single robust line supplying metering manifolds.
A brake application counter is used to initiate the lubrication cycles and, to avoid dependence on vehicle electrics, the applications are counted by sensing of braking pressure pulses.
Full pressure only is sensed, so that brake "feathering" is ignored.
