Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• ERF is extending its range by fitting the Cummins Cseries engine to a development of the El° range, to produce the new lightweight E8. It has also revised its E6 range and extended it by offering an ES6 variant fitted with a cab bought from Steyr in Austria.

The ES6, says ERF chairman Peter Foden, is the firt ERF to be offered for years with a mainly steel cab, and is ". . . highly suited to the 14/ 17-tonne rigid market where cab access and egress are so important." The revised chassis, which is waisted to allow the use of wider tyres at the rear, will also be used on the E6 with ERF's own GRP cab.

The E8 has the eight-litre Cseries engine in charge-cooled "265" form, giving 183kW installed. This engine makes the vehicle both lighter and cheap er than the E10, says Fader'. The E8 will come with an Eaton all-synchromesh ninespeed range-change gearbox, and the company sees a big demand for it in 6 x 4 and 8x4 forms as a tipper chassis.

Full details of the new ranges, and driving impressions, will appear in next week's Commercial Motor.

ERF increases production and opens a new assembly line — see page 25.
