Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Renault Truck Industries has added five new models to its UK truck line-up, includng more powerful tractive units and, for the first time, a British-built eight-wheeler, in time for the motor show next month.

As expected, RTI has extended it top-of-the-range Rseries of tractive units with the addition of the R365, which has a maximum nett power of 267kW (359hp) and peak torque of 1,620Nm (1,1951bft) at 1,200rpm. Until now, the most powerful R-series tractor has been the 247kW (331hp) R340.

The French-built R365 has the same basic six-cylinder 12litre MIDR engine as its R310 and R340 stablemates, but the uprated 06.35.40 version features revised fuel-injection and charge-cooling.

The R365 will be sold as a 4x2 or 6 x 2 twin-steer, the latter with an air-suspended positively-steered axle conversion by York Transport Engineering, which also carries out twin-steer conversions on the R310 and R340.

A sleeper cab is standard, with the Turboliner high-roof cab available as an option. RTI quotes kerbweights of 6,605kg and 8,140kg for the 4x2 and 6x2 R365 respectively.

Both models come with Renault 1318 18-speed rangechange synchromesh gearbox as standard, with the option of air on the drive axle.

While most R365s are likely to be bought for 38-tonne operations, RTI can plate them up to 59 tonnes GCW for any Special Types work.

The long-awaited G-range eight-legger, the G290 30D, also makes its debut at the NEC. The UK-built 8x4 has the six-cylinder 9.8-litre charge-cooled MIDR 06.20.45 engine, rated at 2171rW (291hp) with a maximum torque of 1,176Nm (8671bft) at 1,13Orpm.

The G290-30D will be sold in two wheelbases for tipper work: 5.0 and 5.57m, weighing in at 8,384kg and 8,482 respectively. A special version of the 5.57m chassis with a longer rear overhang will be avail able for general haulage.

Operators can order the G290-30D with a day or sleeper cab, along with the optional 18-speed B18 transmission.

Staying with the G-range, RTI has added an extra drawbar model based on its current 17-tonne chassis, designated the G290-17D. It has the same 21kW engine as the eightwheeler, and the B18 gearbox.

Four wheelbases are available: 4.8,5.2,5.75 and 6.3 metres. The G290-17D is the first G-range truck to feature a day version of the GT sleeper cab. The 32-tonne GTW G290 • 17D can be fitted with an air suspended back axle and a long-range 400-litre fuel tank. Finally, Rh has developed a lighter version of the 96kW (130hp) 7.5-tonne Midliner, the S08-130L. It offers around 300kg more payload than the existing S08-130, thanks to new axles, and features a revised chassis, braking system and suspension. Kerbweight for a 4.45-metre wheelbase model is 2,980kg.
