One driving sin leads to another

ONE of two cardinal sins of motorway driving, which have been highlighted by AA traffic officers, often leads to the other. Thoughtless motorists hogging the centre lane at about 50m ph frequently cause lorry drivers to breathe down their necks and then complain bitterly of menacing behaviour.
Alistair Cheyne, assistant south-eastern regional director of the AA, makes a welcome plea for consideration for lorry drivers on motorways, who, being unable to use the third lane, should, he says, be given every opportunity of overtaking in the middle lane. They in their turn could often be more courteous to car drivers, who may reasonably feel intimidated by a 38-tonne monster hurtling through turbulent air at well above the legal speed a few feet away.
