Dutch debut for new coaches for UK

SEVERAL NEW coach models destined for the British market were announced at the RN Bus and Coach show in Amsterdam this week. Leyland Bus used the occasion to launch a 260bhp version of its mid-engined Tiger coach chassis.

The Tiger 260 has a 191kW (260bhp) version of the Leyland TL11H engine which can be matched to a Leyland Hydracyclic gearbox or the heavier-duty ZF 56.90 six-speed manual unit.

Other standard features include a 100amp alternator, 195amp batteries, an air dryer and 405-litre (89 gallon) rearmounted fuel tanks.

Options include the ZF gear box with splitter unit, air suspension lifting device, Kysor radiator shutters, Girling Skidchek and Telma retarder (with ZF gearbox only).

The Tiger 260 is to be available only for 12m coachwork and offers six per cent more power and seven per cent more torque than the established 245 version.

To achieve the increase in output, the fuel-injection equipment has been changed to include an all-speed governer and the AiResearch turbocharger has been rematched.

Engine cylinder head casting has also been modified to improve coolant flow and engine cooling and the cam followers have been hardened to improve durability.

Daf is introducing a new modular rear engined coach chassis, the SB3000. The chassis is evolved from the 582300 and offers front disc brakes as an option and anti-lock braking as standard. The SB3000 will be launched in Britain at next month's Motor Show in Birmingham.

A full report with pictures of the RAI bus and coach show will appear in CM next week.
