Forces' freight
SEDDON ATKINSON has received an order to supply 55 401 4X2 tractive units to the Ministry of Defence for general freight work, operating at 32.5 and 38 tonnes. Delivery will be completed by the end of this year.
All vehicles will be specified with Rolls-Royce 290L diesel engines, fuller RTX 11609A gearboxes and Rockwell R180 rear axles. Anti-skid devices will be fitted.
The RAF, the Army and particularly the British Army of the Rhine will operate 36 of the units in Britain and West Germany. The Royal Navy will take the remaining 19 units for moving freight from naval bases to dockyards throughout the UK.
