INSPITE of a "good show" in 1982, Southfields coachworks has joined the growing number of commerical vehicle bodybuilders not attending this year's NEC Motor Show. Instead, it will be mounting its own exhibition in the first half of 1985.
According to Southfields' sales director Richard Jayes, the Motor Show "is no longer a productive environment for making contact with customers. The overcrowding and frenetic pace get in the way of proper discussions."
Examples of Southfields bodywork will be on display on the Ford stand which will have a stepframe brewery body with Southfields equipment.
Next year is the company's 25th anniversary and the separate show will be used to display a variety of company products as well as equipment from other component manufacturers.
Southfields will continue to concentrate on shows which offer "value for money for itself and its customers", in particular the Institute of Road Transport Engineers' Show at Solihull, which, according to Mr Jayes, has provided the company with an excellent sales platform.
