Harry Heywood, writing in Practical Motorist, pays tribute to a "lorry driver who lost his coolant but didn't lose his cool." The driver of a foreign-registered Fiat car waiting to turn right near Hatfield suddenly and unpredictably started to pull across the lorry's bows when it was only yards away.
What looked like an inevitable fatal accident was averted by the lorry driver, who swerved so skilfully that he avoided overturning on to the car and merely removed some superfluous bright metal from it The lorry's cooling system was damaged in hitting a bank. Two foreign visitors to Britain owe their lives to a lorry driver's instant reaction.
