About three in every hundred passengers on Greater Manchester Transport buses swindle the authority. They may be making £2 million a year in this way and no doubt regard it as a fair fare fiddle. The magistrates who are holding a special whole-day court on Monday (September 25) to deal with about 30 alleged offenders are hardly likely to share that view.
Another 350 face possible prosecution. By the time their turn comes, the beaks are going. to be a good deal less merry than Old King Cole when he called for his fiddlers three.
