RAYMOND Baxter, introducing the speakers, forecast that at some time after the turn of the century there will be either a scramble for oil or responsible organisations and Government will rationalise its allocation.

Even in the next 10 years, he said, road transport would go through a time of change compared with which anything that had happened in the past ten years would pale into insignificance.
British industry, he said, had staggered to the crest of a watershed; and while it was a cliche to say transport was industry's lifeblood, it was more pertinent to point out that road transport is the lifeblood of British industry.
Three inescapable pressures would dictate the future the energy crisis; mounting political pressures arising from that economic pressure; and increasing pressure from Government interference or State control, and pressure from the public.
