Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• As comprehensive schools become more widespread, Education Authorities in largely rural areas have the problem of getting the children to school. In West Suffolk, which has a continuing comprehensive programme, the strain is to be taken off the public transport by the introduction of Strachans special school buses. Eleven are going on the road for the new school year starting this month.

Garaged and operating from points all over the county, the 51-seater buses will run in to schools from distances of up to about 10 miles, providing a complementary service to the private-hire coaches already being used. They have a compact 3-and-2 seating arrangement, and three are fitted with luggage compartments to suit them for special school outings. The buses, in a tangerine livery for easy visibility on narrow country roads, are built on the Bedford SB chassis, and are being supplied through 0. G. Barnard and Son, Stowmarket.

They meet the needs of the Inner London Education Authority and the transport division of the supplies department of the GLC has ordered from Dormobile Ltd, Folkestone, 77 31-seater schoolbuses based on the Bedford petrol-engined VAS chassis with bodywork of all-steel construction and having grp corner mouldings. Special attention has been given to child safety through low-line driver vision cab, nearside kerbview window and jack-knife doors to each side with driver operated locking devices.
