Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Petrol which was put into the fuel tank of a diesel-engined Spanish coach was discharged into the gutter by the driver in Brighton on Tuesday. The fire brigade had to be called to flush it out of the drains.

The coach was on its way to Dover to join a ferry. The driver drew up to a Brighton garage which did not sell diesel fuel. He asked for gas oil and the attendant who thought he said "gasoline" filled it up with petrol.

After a short distance the driver realized he had the wrong fuel and emptied his tank into the gutter.

While the firemen were flushing the drains the police interviewed the driver and said afterwards that the coach and driver were allowed to proceed and that they considered it a genuine mistake because of language difficulty.
