Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Details of Stockport's new multi-storey bus station-cum-industrial complex — which will cost several million pounds — were revealed last week by SELNEC which is aiming to build one of the safest bus stations in the UK and back it up with a streamlined transportation system. Building on the site, situated at Daw Bank, is expected to start in early 1973 and take 18 months.

Besides providing a safer and more efficient bus station, the new building will relieve the now traffic-stricken centre of Mersey Square, one of the most congested areas in the whole of the Greater Manchester conurbation.

Mr A. Moore, SELNEC's chief planning

officer told CM that the bus station will be at ground level but that the first floor will be given over to a walkway from which passengers will be able to get to any platform. There will also be a connection to the railway stations to facilitate link-ups. The walkway will also give access to A6 and passengers cross the main road by going under the arch of the bridge.

To tie in with the new station and European standardization, SELNEC will be introducing new bus-stop signs at the station. The dominant feature on these will be a large black drawing of a single-decker bus. These will be used at the bays in the building and in place of present street "stop" signs.
