Mr John Peyton has rejected suggestions that doctors should be required to notify the icensing Authority when they consider that patients holding hgv driving licences are no nger fit to drive. He has also rejected proposals that eyesight tests should be more ringent and that appeals against a refusal to grant a driving licence should be dealt with special tribunals with medical assessors.
The Minister has decided to proceed with the proposal announced in October 1971 to :tend the duration of a full driving licence. However, instead of it being issued for life it ill be issued until the driver is aged 70 and every three years thereafter.
