Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Volvo AS (Bus Division), clo Allsa Trucks Ltd, 101, Kelburn Street, Barrhead, Glasgow.

Volvo has recently introduced two bus chassis which are both new to the UK. The most advanced ,of these is the model 859 city bus which is semi-integral design. Volvo supplies a complete chassis but, this is not sufficient to carry the imposed weight of 72 passengers. The bodywork therefore has to be to some extent load carrying. The bare chassis on show demonstrates to best advantage the running gear but operators can see a fully bodied vehicle, with an 11.25-metre Camair by Marshal's of Cambridge which is open for inspection in the demonstration park. The B59 has full air suspension and is powered by a Volvo TH D 100 9.6-litre six-cylinder diesel which is mounted on its side at the rear. This engine produces 230 bhp (DIN) at 2200 rpm and 694 lb fit maximum torque. Braking is provided by a direct-acting compressed air system with separate circuits to front and rear axles.

The other bodied coach is built on a Volvo B58 chassis. This model is a conventional ladder frame chassis and has been in use on the Continent for some years now and is well proven.

A Volvo 230 bhp engine is mounted on its side between the axles slightly ahead of the middle and drives through a choice of Wilson semi-automatic or Volvo manual gearbox. The chassis exhibited has an 11metre Plaxton Panorama Elite Ill 53-seat body.
