Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Seddon Motors Ltd, Woodstock Factory, Oldham, Lams, Perkins engines are used in the fourand six-wheel Seddon models. Two 13:four models are on show, one plated at 14 tons gvw is fitted with the well known Perkins 6.354 5.8 litre diesel and the other at 16 tons gvw with the turbocharged version of this engine, the T6.354. Turbocharging and intercooling, which is an integral part of the design of this engine, increases the output to 149 bhp. The 12ft 6in. tipper version of the 13:four on show has an Eaton 10 ton twospeed rear axle and a five-speed gearbox.

One six-wheel Seddon is on show; this is a new model which uses the Perkins V8.510 engine with an output of 164 bhp, and an Eaton double-drive bogie with 10-ton spiral bevel axles. This model is the heaviest sixwheel Seddon and lighter versions powered by the T6.354 engine are available for operation at 22 tons and special lightweight tanker version for operation at 23 tons gvw. All Seddon six-wheelers have four-spring bogies with balance beam load compensation.

Earlier this year all Seddon vehicles underwent major changes to reduce in-cab noise. Extensive use of insulation has cut interior noise level by 9 dBA to give a significant increase in driver comfort. Noise level now is approximately one-third of what it used to be.

Maximum gcw tractive units are represented by two examples of the 34:four. One is powered by a Rolls-Royce Eagle 220 bhp 12-litre six-cylinder diesel and uses a 10-speed Fuller range-change gearbox together with a Lipe-Rallway twin-plate clutch. The other example is fitted with the 14-litre straight-eight Gardner 8LX13 in its derated 215 bhp (installed) form. At this rating the engine can be used with a 17in. single-plate clutch and the six-speed David Brown gearbox thus saving .weight and cost. Both tractive units have Seddon hub reduction axles am spring brakes.

The coach chassis on the stand is ar example of the 16ft 2in. wheelbase Pertnim 6 model suitable for a 10-metre body. Thi: chassis uses a Perkins 76.354 engin( mounted vertically at the front of the chassi: yet low enough to allow a floor to run over i and to afford an entrance by its side and aheat of the front wheels.

A new Seddon coach chassis is known a; the Midi. It is virtually a 20ft-long edition a the Pennine front-engined chassis shown bu is powered by an 80 bhp Perkins four-cylincie diesel.
