Dunsmore, Coventry CV8 3DZ Undoubtedly the major attraction on the Dodge stand throughout the week will be the new Dodge/Unipower eight-wheeler. This is the first eight-wheeler offered through the Chrysler distribution network and is a conversion of the KT 900 6 x 4 tipper chassis by Unipower Ltd, The gvw limit, owing to the 16ft 8in. wheelbase, is 28 tons. Basic specification for the eight-wheeler follows that of the 6 x 4 KT 90. A Perkins V8 510 169 bhp engine is used together with a Chrysler six-speed heavy-duty gearbox. Eaton 38 DT bogie and full air brakes. The de-luxe tilt cab is used and power steering is fitted as standard although the steering ratio of the manual box is retained.

The Perkins V8 510 is also used in the Dodge KP 1000 28 tons gcw tractive unit. This exhibit is fitted with Lockheed Antilok brake equipment.

An 'example of the Dodge K 950 is on show. This model has a gross weight limit of 14.5 tons and is fitted with a 120 bhp Perkins 6.354 diesel engine driving through a sixspeed overdrive gearbox to a 6.5 to 1 rear axle. Other equipment fitted is power steering (an option on this model), 24V electrics, a 50 gal fuel tank, rear axle dampers and a Bostrum sprung seat.

Making its first public appearance at the Show is the Dodge K 1050 16 tons gvw four-wheeler using the turbocharged Perkins 6.354 diesel. The T6,354 which is an option on this model produces 149.5 bhp net at 2600 rpm and 378 lb ft torque at 1600 rpm; it drives through a five-speed synchromesh gearbox to an Eaton two-speed axle. The 12ft 3in. chassis exhibited forms the centrepiece of the stand and its specification includes de-luxe cab, power steering, suspension seat, hazard warning lights, heavy-duty front springs and rear axle dampers.

The last Dodge exhibit is a K 1050 chassis cab. This model will interest operators con

sidering drawbar trailer application, as solo the K 1050 grosses the normal maximum 16 tons but with an SE0 specification to make it suitable for towing a trailer it can gross as a combination up to 28 tons. The exhibit shown has a 15ft 6in. wheelbase. The brake system is modified to provide trailer brake connections. etc, and as well as the rear towing pin there is a nosing pin at the front end for manoeuvring trailers. A Perkins V8 510 engine and a Chrysler six-speed synchromesh gearbox is used in conjunction with an Eaton 19800 two-speed rear axle.
