Hypo tandem axles are fitted and there is a lockab inter-axle differential. The cab is the all-ste F 218 tilt cab and offers a very high standai of driver comfort and safety. Power-assiste steering is standard.

The FA 1400 DD is an example of the ne 1400 series announced in Amsterdam earli, this year. DAF is relatively speaking a srru company but it has prospered in Europe building up to a standard rather than dov). to a price and that philosophy is plain to SE in the F 1400 range. Plated at 11.5 tons gy and intended primarily for distributive an delivery work, for municipal tipping and sho haul work, the F 1400 range will interest owr account operators who are looking for n liability and durability. The cab is a full thre4 seater and is fully tilting, standard feature include quarter-lights with burglar-proof cor trol knobs, coat hooks, fitted trays on th facia and a lockable compartment. Two tractive units are also on display: th larger one the FT 2600 DKA has a design gc% of 38 tons, and the smaller FT 2200 DU design gcw of 36 tons. However, both ar restricted to 32 tons gcw in the UK. It is ir teresting to note that the FT 2600 DKA wa introduced at the Amsterdam Show 10 year ago, and a quick inspection of this exhibi will serve to show how advanced the Conti nen tale are in heavy truck cab design.

Other exhibits on the DAF stand are thi little DAF 33 8 cwt van which has a Variomati transmission. and a turbocharged DAF DKI 1160 engine. This engine develops 304 bh (DIN) at 2200 rpm and a maximum torque c 780 lb ft at 1500 rpm.
