Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Atkinson Vehicles Ltd, Walton-le-Dale, Preston, Lancs Two Borderer two-axle tractive units are on show: one is displayed in chassis form only and has a Gardner 8LX8 engine while the other is fitted with the latest version of Atkinson's grp cab. Atkinson now offers the Gardner 8LXB at 240 bhp and Cummins and Rolls-Royce engines at 220 bhp in its 32 tons gcw tractive units. The Gardner 6LXB is available but because of the 6 bhp per ton rule it den only be offered in 30-ton gcw units. The 205 bhp Cummins engine is now available only as a special option. The chassisonly Borderer has a Lipe Rollway clutch and Fuller nine-speed range-change gearbox behind the Gardner, but the new David Brown 8.750 gearbox and 15in Borg and Beck twin-plate clutch are also offered.

The cabbed Borderer has a 215 bhp (net installed) Cummins engine and a 10-speed

gearbox. New features of the Borderer are th improved cab and dual-rate rear springt improved sound-proofing has reduced th interior noise level to about one-third that c an untreated cab, and the interior noise leve in a Gardner-engined Borderer, for example is claimed to be as low as 84 dBA. Polyethe foam, skinned with pvc, covers the undersidi of the floor, the front scuttle, dash structur. and the engine compartment; the rear pant is also backed by sound-deadening foam. Th. roof interior is covered by a moulded pant in abs plastics which is perforated and foan backed.

Also on the stand and on show public!, for the first time are, examples of Atkinsoi sixand eight-wheelers for operation at 24 and 30 tons gvw respectively. At the momen both Searcher (six-wheeler) and Defende (eight-wheeler) models are standardized a Gardner engines, but Cummins engines wi be available later.

Defenders may be specified with Eata 38 DS spiral bevel axles mounted on fou prings or with a Kirkstall twin-spring bogie. his bogie may be seen on the Searcher xhibit. The fifth vehicle on the stand is akinson's most powerful model, the Venturer hree-axle tractive unit which can be specified o operate at up to 75 tons gcw. The model in show has a turbocharged 14-litre Cummins :ngine developing 270 bhp. A 15-speed 'tiller range-change gearbox is used in ;onjunction with Kirkstall double-reduction ixles on a four-spring-bogie design.
