AThe point of view implied in the second
question is too extreme to be realistic. Management principles are the same whatever the constitutional framework though the methods and techniques of the very large organization, whether public or private, will naturally be more sophisticated than anything practicable in a small business.
It is perhaps appropriate to quote from the 1967 annual report of the British Institute of Management whose chairman's statement includes these words; "There is much evidence of the new climate in which management is rapidly becoming more professional.
"In our mixed economy, modern management policies, practices and techniques have universal application in all kinds of enterprises: public companies, nationalized industries, family businesses and cooperative societies.
"Apart from industry and commerce these practices can be arid are being applied further in national and local government, social services, educational institutions and in the many kinds of governmental and voluntary agencies which serve the modern state."
