THE THE Economic Development Committee for Motor Vehicle Distribution and Repair met on Wednesday to review progress on the main items in its programme: a draft report on future demand for garage workshop services; the commissioning of a consultant's study of workshop productivity with special reference to incentive schemes; and an examination of labour utilization and turnover.
It considered the recent report by the National Board for Prices and Incomes on car repair charges and came to the provisional view that the report confirmed that the EDC's programme of work was on the right lines.
It arranged for a detailed analysis of the report to be prepared in the light of the committee's present programme with a view to determining whether any modifications or changes in emphasis in the latter were required.
And the EDC considered, too, a report on the Folkson Swedish repair research station and supported a proposal for setting up a similar but more broadly based establishment in the UK.
