by A. J. P. WILDING, AMIMechE MIRTE AVAN version of the Skoda Octavia Combi estate car is now available in the UK through Skoda (Gt. Britain) Ltd. Payload capacity is 10 cwt.

The Octavia van has a 1,221 c.c. fourcylinder petrol engine with an output of 47 b.h.p. at 4,500 r.p.m. and giving a maximum torque of 65 lb. ft. at 3,500 r.p.m.

Transmission is through a four-speed gearbox with synchromesh on the upper two ratios and there is independent suspension of all wheels with coil springs at the front and a transverse leaf spring at the rear.

Above the drop-down tailgate of the allsteel body is a lifting flap incorporating a fullwidth window. The body has a capacity of 63 Cu. ft., overall length of the floor is 5ft 6in, interior height is 3ft and maximum interior width 3ft 6in.

Length overall is 13ft 4in, width (widest point) is 5ft 3in and overall height 4ft 8in.

Finished in light grey or red, the Skoda Octavia van is priced at £496, excluding delivery from the Sheerness depot of Skoda (Gt. Britain) Ltd.
