Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MANCHESTER Corporation Transport is to reapply to the Traffic Commissioners to abolish its one-stage 3d minimum fare. It did so in January but, in granting other increases, the Chairman of the Commissioners asked it to attempt to retain the 3d fare for a while longer.

But now Manchester is reapplying because o.m.o. ticket machines cannot take 3d pieces —and because operating costs have risen—a spokesman said this week.

• YORKSHIRE Traffic Commissioners last week granted an application by Leeds Corporation to increase fares—with an amendment. Increases originally sought would have meant £753,936 extra annual revenue; the amendment cuts this to about £559,500. The new fares come into operation on Monday.
