Lack of proper incentive over ATFs condemned

A HAMPSHIRE-BASED Designated Premises (DP) has accused VOSA of wanting all the benefits from an Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) without putting in the hard work needed to make them successful.

Kevin Pringle, managing director of Fareham, Hampshire-based CV maintenance firm Trailer Care, says VOSA has to offer more of a financial incentive to persuade DPs to become ATFs.

-We are charged for each test a VOSA employee conducts; and we then have to put something on top of that. We also have to pay for equipment and maintenance. What we should he paying is one fee for a VOSA tester to come out here for a day," he says.

Pringle adds: "It seems to me VOSA wants all the benefits without the pain; reducing its overheads without reducing revenue generated."

The company says the DP is only a small part of operations and does not make enough money to stand alone as a separate business.

VOSA has previously told CM that it anticipates it will see the first ATF contract signings towards the end of October.
