• The Birmingham Motor Show opens to the public on Saturday without heavy commercial vehicles but tentative plans are being drafted for them to have their own show next autumn.
"There was not sufficient demand this year among the commercial community for heavy commercial vehicles or pcvs," says a spokesman for the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. "But there is a likeli hood of a commercial show next autumn.
Its launch may have gained support this week by reports of a likely rise in demand for all commercial vehicles in the UK next year from the Economist Intelligence Unit. The rise to 220,000 new registrations follows two years of decline.
Only France is expected to increase the number of new registrations to a significant degree, up 10,000 to 380,000 in 1993.
