• The thousands of hours hauliers waste in motorway traffic jams could be saved by better government planning, more information and new technology, says a joint Freight Transport Association RAC report.
The report urges the Government to: publish standard journey times for motorways with more up-to-date information on delays; improve the management of roadworks by increasing contractors' incentives; increase use of porous asphalt; introduce lighting on all motorways; introduce Automatic Incident Detection and Signalling Technology (AIDST) including more variable message signs.
