/ Kent County Council is to carry out the first operational trials on the side-kneeling Omni which is to be certified this month.
Shildon-based manufacturer Omni Coach says it has quoted KCC and two other operators for the 6.6m unit.
The kneeling model is believed to cost 30% more than the standard E36,750 Omni. Extra safety devices have been added to the kneeling Omni since it became available this summer. A sensor strip along the nearside of the bus reverses the kneeling procedure if it hits an obstruction; and bright yellow guards prevent wheelchairs sliding off the ramp.
