• Leicester Citybus has suffered a £22,000 loss at the end of its first five months' trading to the end of March this year.
Despite the losses, however, chairman Peter Soulsby says he is quite satisfied with the company's initial trading figure — "particularly in light of some extreme circumstances".
Soulsby says that "Leicester has experienced considerable competition for passengers during the past year, and Citybus has proved that despite competition, it can trade successfully as a private company".
When the 1985 Transport Act came into force last October, the company replaced the council's transport department and, while it is still wholly owned by the council, Citybus is trading commercially under a board of directors. During the first five months to 31 March 1987, the company enjoyed a turnover of £5.1 million.
