Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Sandbach-based truck builder ERF is now offering its 14-17 tonne GVW E6 two-axle rigid chassis with the option of SAF Type E air suspension on the drive axle.

Among the engineering changes made to the E6 chassis to accommodate the airsuspension package are a pair of 300-litre air tanks and additional bracketry to mount the suspension bags on the conventional Rockwell drive axle. Lateral location is provided by mono leaf springs; rear shock absorbers are standard.

Ride height on the airsuspended E6 chassis is constant regardless of load, with all air-suspended rigids having a frame height of 914mm when fitted with 275/70 tyres.

As part of the air-suspension package operators can specify a raise/lower feature, which provides up to 260mm of vertical travel to allow easy matching of the truck's body floor to loading docks. Control of the chassis height is by a rear chassis-mounted handvalve. The extra 60 litres of compressed air allows the raising or lowering to be carried out without having to keep the truck's engine running. Cost is 22,160 plus VAT.

ERF says that its air suspension option is likely to appeal to operators involved in foods, electrical goods and hanging garment distribution.
