Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

We were interested to read Mr Gibson's letter in CM and the comment that he -Buys British" when he can. We were particularly interested because of his opinion of the Leyland engine and chassis, the German ZF gearbox and the Australian S.G.V. exhaust brake. He seems to think along.' the same lines as most of our local bus operators.

It is very nice to see such reports on our product, but we would add that the S.G.V. he is using is British if it was put on in March, 1974, and is an unauthorised copy, because our last shipment at that date still lies in a warehouse in London awaiting re-shipment.

Perhaps he, and other operators in that sphere, appreciated the original product, which is only

obtainable either from us direct or from Talleres Cataluna S.A. of Zaragoza, Spain, who are manufacturing our product under licence. We should be very pleased to offer him a good product at a very sensible price from either source, but I am afraid that, like Volvo and ZF it won't be British until we tie up with some other manufacturer.

H C. SMITH Managing Director, Smith's Exhaust Brakes, Ryde.
