Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

for five days a week is engaged on medium-distance runs and fills in a logbook work on Saturday and Sunday mornings driving an hgv within two miles radius of base? For this job there are no log sheets and the driving is limited to about 30 minutes per day.

AThe answer depends on th e circumstances.

First, the regulations state that you must not be on duty for more than 60 hours in a working week. This means that if during the five weekdays you have already been on duty for 60 hours then you cannot work on the Saturday or Sunday.

Secondly, you must have a period of at least 24 hours off duty each working week so even if you have not worked 60 hours between Monday and Friday you could work on the Saturday but not on the Sunday, or vice versa.

If, however, the weekend work on both Saturday and Sunday when added to the hours you worked during the week does not exceed 60 hours, and provided that between the time of finishing work on the Saturday and starting on the Sunday or between finishing on the Sunday and starting on the Monday you have a complete period of 24 hours offduty, then it is in order to work these two short periods.
