• As part of a campaign by the RHA to tell the public how important the road haulage industry is to the community, the Hull area is holding a series of meetings.
At each meeting the film — "The Third Age of Transport" — recently produced by the British Industry Roads Campaign, is shown as an introduction. At several meetings the area chairman, Mr K. Wake, has followed this with a presentation of the industry's case, helped in some cases by other transport experts or RHA members.
At the first meeting last week with the local Junior Chamber of Commerce and Shipping questions about legislation, road safety law abuse and driver training were answered by Mr Wake.
The second meeting was with the TGWU and the URTU and the unions have suggested a further meeting on a date when more members will be able to attend.
The meeting this week was with the Cottingham Ladies Club when the problems of local hauliers were explained by Mr Wake with the help of the manager of the local DoE goods vehicle test station, a solicitor, Mr John Taylor, who works for the Hull area of the RHA, and Mr Harry Dixon, Hull GTA training officer.
Meetings to be held during the rest of this month and during November will be with Kingston-upon-Hull Accident Prevention Council, Welcome Club, Happy Circle Club, IoTA (Hull branch), and the Goole and District Road Transport Federation and Goole Chamber of Commerce and Shipping.
