Simple New Lifting Gear for Containers Speeds Up Loading and Unloading

ASIMPLE and inexpensive form of lifting gear for goods containers has been marketed by Hine Patents, Ltd.,

Huddersfield. Known as the Rollarise, it consists essentially of four legs, which,, when required, are fitted into the ends of cross-members upon which the container normally rests.

These legs, being longer than the direct vertical height from their point of anchorage on the container to the ground, spread slightly, both forwards and backwards.

In order te raise the load it is necessary only to draw the legs. together. This is done through the medium of wire cables running from the shorter arm of a lever, pivotally mounted on the lower end of one leg, to the upper end or the' second leg on the same longitudinal axis.

These cables are duplicated in respect of each pair of legs, so that there are four cables and four longer operating arms.

As the legs are drawn together their effective vertical length naturally becomes greater, hence the load is raised a sufficient distance to clear the floor of the vehicle.

It is claimed that with this device a lorry can be loaded or unloaded in three minutes. As this can be done under

conditions where other types of tackle could not be employed, its usefulness will at once be appreciated. Its adaptability is such that the only measurements governing a model for any specific purpose concern the extreme width of the container at the base and the height of the vehicle platform when unladen.
