A NEW CROSSING over the M9, at one of Scotland’s bridge bash hotspots, has been designed to reduce the number of strikes caused by lorries, the Scottish transport minister said. The £2m Chartershall bridge on the outskirts of Stirling replaces an older crossing that was demolished due to damage caused by strikes by high-sided vehicles.
Scottish transport minister Keith Brown said: “Chartershall bridge will help reduce bridge strikes.” He put the cost of such strikes at £500,000 a year. The new bridge is single span and offers more headroom. Since the launch of Transport Scotland’s Strike it Out campaign in 2008, there has been an 80% reduction in bridge strikes on trunk roads in Scotland.
