in Dumfries-based international operator, Currie European Transport, is set to expand its French operations following a merger with a French freight forwarder.

Its French subsidiary, Currie SARI., and Intrans Route International have joined to form Currieintrans S.A. The new firm will continue to operate out of Gennevilliers, Paris with the same range of transport services.

Currie European has a 65% stake in the new entity with the remaining balance of shares held equally by Laser Transport International, based in Hythe. Kent, and Augsburg, Germany -based BIG Internationale Spedition.

Paul Albanhac, the company's new managing director and former general manager of Currie SARI, says: "The companies came together readily as if they were a perfect fit. We have plans to develop and grow the business significantly over the next few years", Tom Barrie, managing director of Currie European Transport, adds: "We now have five operating centres in the UK, an established Dutch subsidiary based in Nijmegen and with the strengthening of our French subsidiary we are continuing the realisation of our vision of a truly European network."
