Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• NCS of Chesterfield has developed a trailer-mounted loading system for 12.2m containers, and has built 12 for refrigerated container hire specialist Redcliffe International.

At present the cranes are only capable of lifting empty containers up to seven tonnes. But NCS is working with trailer builder Maxilode of Peterborough on a version which will be able to handle loads up to 27 tonnes. On that model both cranes will slide to the middle of the trailer, enabling a 6.1m maximum-weight container to be placed in the optimum position to balance the axle weights.

In both cases the cranes work independently, which is essential if the container to be lifted is on uneven ground, says NCS managing director Bill Whitehead. They are controlled by the drive from the back of the trailer, but NCS is developing a remote control system.

The cranes, minus trailers, cost about 223,500 for the 12.2m version, and 218,500 for the 6.1m model.
