• The first European TCS&D exhibition, held at Rotterdam's Ahoy Congress Centre, fell a long way short on attendance, particularly from the Continent. This must throw its viability into question, but did not detract from the high quality finish of the many food carrying vehicles on show.
Fruehauf s tri-axled Iceliner is a joint development. Bodied by the German Ackermann Fruehauf company but built on to a Crane-Fruehauf tri-axle air-sprung trailer chassis built at Dereham, Norfolk, the Iceliner reefer is aimed at the international haulier.
With its pre-painted aluminium panels and GRP inner lining plus a stainless steel rear frame, the body offers a K insulation factor of below 0.29.
It can couple at 1.17m, offers a 2.5m-high interior and, at 13.6m, will carry up to 26/ 33 metric/Euro pallets. In standard form it tares out at 8.9 tonnes.
Another jointly built 13.6m reefer trailer with a low (1,150mm) coupling came from ISO-KOS in the shape of a Trouillet body and Vogelsang airsprung tri-axle chassis with slim 35mm neck.
The GRP/ polyurethane foam sandwich panelled body has several neat features, from its shapely aluminium extruded framework and rear door lock bars encased in tidy alu-shields, to rear lights set into moulded rubber corner units top and bottom.
Its 13.4m-long, 2.5m-high interior is refrigerated by a Carrier Vego undermount with slim front-mounted evaporator. It can be built with a recessed neck to gain an extra 100mrn of headroom if required, says the manufacturer.
Ulm, Germany-based Kogel specialises in building refrigerated combinations but chose to exhibit its Euro Combi 2000 reefer swap body system for road/rail use.
Mounted on a centre-axle drawbar trailer, it meets ATO/ FRC certification as well as Continental railway codes.
Chereau, which has a UK trading partner in Don-Bur, has added a new 285 model to its Eurogam range of reefers.
