Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

OONSIDERABLE space in this issue is devOted to precautionary measures which should be taken to avoid damage to motor vehicles by frost. The Minister of Transport is particularly coricerned with this matter, because he is anxious that the number of vehicles put out of action shall be reduced to the minimum, as industry can ill-spare units in this vital means for transport, which may well claim to be performing such valuable work as to constitute one of the greatest factors in the efforts being made to ensure victory for this country and its Allies.

Replacement parts are scarce, skilled repair men -are mainly engaged in other activities, and breakdowns through such faults as cracked cylinders may be the cause of, holding up vehicles for weeks, if not longer. At the same time, there is little doubt that there will be some who, however well advised, will fail to take the necessary precautions. We, therefore, include in our treatment of the 'subject references to what can be done for the best where frost has resulted in damage, either light or severe.

An enormous number of vehicles was held up last winter as a consequence of the extremely severe weather conditions then experienced. It is barely likely that this winter will be similar, but it is as well to remember that it does not require any long spell of extreme cold to wreak serious damage. One night of cold, without loving care, may well result in thousands of failures. Therefore treat your vehicle as you would one dear to you, house it warmly, wrap it up carefully, give it a hot-water bottle or its equivalent, and that little ..something which will keep out the cold.
