A Wide Range of Small-capacity Machines Staged by Twelve Makers in a Collective Exhibit.

-9 LEVEN manufacturers are included U in the collective exhibit of commerCial motorcycles and light threewheelers organized by the British Cycle and Motor Cycle Manufacturers' and Traders' Union, Ltd. This section occupies stands 240, 241, 242 and 243 between the Main Hall and the New Hall Galleries.

Two Arid l models are shown ; both are sidecars attached to 550 c.c. motorcycles with side-valve engines and three-speed gearboxes. The truck body is capable of holding 2 cwt. and the price is £58 10s. The box carrier-type shown deals with 3-cwt. loads and is Priced at £62 10s. The capacity of the latter is 17 cubic feet. The reliability of the machine has lately been demonstrated by a 5,000-mile non-engine-stop run under official observation.

• • Another well-known make is the B.S.A., which has three representatives on the stand. The largest is a 980 e.e. engined outfit with a large milk carrier priced at £105 15s. complete. Next in order of size is the 493 c.c. machine with tradesman's 2i-cwt. box carrier which costs £69 15s. For lighter loads there is the 349 c.c. type with light box carrier, priced at £54. The B.S.A. concern

• makes other varieties for those whose -demands are not met by the above.

In a rather different category is the newly introduced Bowden 5-cwt. carrier. which has a single driving wheel and a roomy body carried between the two front wheels. It is specially designed for the work and has a 350 c.c. fancooled Villiers engine. The gearbox is three-speed with kick-starter. Four exhibits are shown, two with carrier bodies, one chassis and one for carrying milk churns. The price of a box carrier model is £89 10s. Extra large _bodies can be obtained. if require&

Another three-wheeler is the Coventry-Victor van, which sells in standard form for £110 with electric lighting, Its effective lead capacity is 3.i cwt., and it is driven by a water-cooled horizontally opposed 'twin-cylinder engine. The rear wheel is carried in a very substantial fork which cutout the risk of sidesway. The drive is by chain to the rear wheel and two speeds are provided.

Two sizes of Dunelt commercial outfit are shown. The larger is the 500 c.c. two-stroke with van body capable of dealing with 3-ewt. to 4-cwt. loads. It costs £73 5s. as .exhibited.' The smaller combination has a 250 c.c. two-stroke motorcycle as the propelling unit, attached to a box-carrier sidecar. Without electric lighting it. costs £48 10s. and deals with 14-ewt, burdens.

Another three-wheeler is that shown by one of the pioneers of the type— Morgan. It is shown in 'convertible form ; it can be used as a 3-cwt. payload vehicle or as a pleasure cycleear for two adults and two or, three children. An 8 h.p. twin-cylinder engine is employed and two speeds are provided. This machine, in company with other three-wheelers, is taxed at £4 per annum and sells for £115. .

A milk float and a boxvan on similar chassis comprise the exhibit of the makers of N.U.T. motorcycles. One of the chief features is the interchangeability of all wheels and the ease with which engine parts can be dismantled and replaced or changed if necessary. The load capacity is 3 cwt. and the price £72 10s. The machine has a 700 c.c. twin-cylinder engine, three-speed gearbox and a sidecar brake interconnected with the rear brake.

The Raleigh exhibit consists of one tradesman's convertible carrier of 498 c.c. capable of dealing with loads up to 3 cwt., and priced at 167. The body can be converted for commercial use by detaching the seat, back upholstery and armiests, after which the top is placed in position, the change-over being effected in three minutes. Those who like high-powered outfits will be interested in the 976 c.c. twincylinder Royal Enfield , which is shown in the form of a dairyman's carrier for handling 4-cwt. loads. The standard combination sells at £85. Various types of body can be supplied.

One of the most comprehensive exhibits is that of Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd., who are showing a box carrier of 3-cwt. capacity, a milk truck for the same pay-load, a box carrier and trailer capable of dealing with 9 cwt. in all, and a milk trailer for loads up to 7 cwt. The prices are £01, 161 10s., £102 5s., and £97 5s. respectively. The trailers have coupled brakes and interchangeable wheels, whilst the engine is of 500 c.c., driving through a four-speed gearbox.

Shown as a sidecar float is the Watsonian truck for 4-cwt. effective loads and priced at £23 10s. It is of special interest to motorcycle agents as it is designed for carrying, .solo motorcycles and has a large sign for advertising purposes.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a representative display is made ; for those whn are not acquainted with the British commercial sidecar and parcelcar market it should be stated that almost every, requirement can be met by specifying special bodywork.
