Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

COMMERCIAL users interested in agricultural work will find plenty to interest them on this stand, as there are several chassis shown, some equipped with front-wheel drive and others with four-wheel drive and fourwheel steering—a:combination enabling the vehicle to be manceuvred in awkward places with greater ease than with the nornia layout.

• Dealing with the chassis in detail, perhaps the most striking exhibit is a 30-ton tractor which, with a four-cylindered engine of 124 mm. bore and 160 mm. stroke (Treasury rating 38.1 h-p.), is equipped with four-wheel drive, fourwheel steering and a differential capable of being locked. Braking is on normal-lines, the pedal applying an internal-expanding-type brake on the transmission, whilst the lever applies external-contracting bands on all four wheel drums. The price of this model is £1,250, which, considering the capabilities of the machine, is quite moderate.

An entirely new model shown by this company for the first time is a 5-ton B.2T.-type road tractor and trailer chassis. The engine is a four-cylin dared raonobloc, having a bore and stroke of 85 mm. and 130 mm. respectively. A single-disc clutch and fourforward-speed gearbox are mounted unitwise with the engine, the gears being operated by a centrally disposed lever. With a wheelbase of 7 ft. 6 ins. and

a track of 5 ft. 10 ins., the' chassis weighs 331 cwt.

The frame is a particularly stiff structure, which supports at the rear an automatic coupling for a trailer. An

inclined tray leads the coupling bar (of the trailer) into an eccentrically mounted ball socket, the end pressure of the ball on the socket causing an enclosing plate to revolve, which automatically locks the two units together. Braking is entirely automatic, the inertia of the trailer being used to apply internal-expanding shoes on drums attached to the rear wheels. -A hand wheel, accessitle from the driver's seat, enables the brake gear on the trailer to be thrown out of action. The whole device is simple and efficient, and does a lot towards solving the problem of braking a trailer satisfactorily.

Another exhibit of outstanding interest is a low-loading front-wheel-drive chassis, which, with an engine of 27.3 h.p. and a four-forward-speed gearbox, is intended to be used for heavy loads requiring an exceptionally low loading position without a kick-up over the rear axle.

Examples of the B.-type 2-ton , and 30-cwt. chassis are also shown, both of which are driven by auxiliary axle shafts from a "sprung" differential, which is mounted on two chassis frame members.
