Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Cheshire Constabulary has blasted recent press reports suggesting that terrorism—not theft—could have been behind the disappearance of two diesel tankers in the last five weeks.

Cheshire police's criticism follows the theft of a tanker on 15 April from the Shell Stanlow oil refinery at Ellesmere Port. A second tanker was stolen from the same refinery on 3 May.

In the first incident the thieves stole "well over 34,000 litres of diesel", according to a spokeswoman for Cheshire police. In the second incident the cab was recovered in Manchester but the tanker full of diesel is still missing. Press reports said police had warned that terrorists might try to turn the tankers into mobie bombs. But police insist the arti cles were unnecessarily alarmist. "These thefts were purely about the diesel, there is no doubt about it," insists the spokeswoman.

II A team of fuel thieves has been targeting trucks parked on a Leicester industrial estate. One of the companies affected, Vfigston Courier Services, says it has lost more than 3,000 litres of fuel in the last five months from vehicles parked at Braisford indimtrial park.
