• The government has finally underlined its intention to create a new offence of Corporate Killing and make the prosecution of company bosses for causing death by gross negligence much easier.

Home secretary David Blunkett has recently announced the government's plan to publish a draft bit in the near future to create the new offence. The move honours a commitment made in Labour's 1997 manifesto and out lined in the Corporate Homicide Bill 20011 Under the new offence, a company and its officers could be prosecuted for conduct falling below what can "reasonably be expected' with regard to protecting the health and safety of anyone employed in that company.
